Charolais Steakhouse in Hickory

Our waitress was excellent. My husband's prime rib was great.A bit loud hard to have discussion.However, the crab cakes they were horrible sooo dry it seemed they were all cornmeal. The sliced fries were cold. If we were to go back I know what not to order.We should have called the manager to express our disappointment but we did not and hope this helps for both owners and future patrons. We do wish the owners luck.

Delicious steaks good service

The steak had good flavor and was cooked well. We felt that the salad could have used something more than iceberg lettuce. The updated dining room, wine cellar, and bar were great.

I wanted to post my comments because of some of the not so impressive ones I have read. I have been to the one before the remodeling and new owners. I had a reserved impression of what to expect. But I am here to tell you it was excellent. My steak was cook the way I ordered it. I usually have to send my steak back at least one time. The flavor of the steak was superb........didn't need any sauces over top. Our waiter Chelsea was wonderful. The only complaint I would have to give is on the noise level.......but we went when it first opened and the noise level wasn't at bad. That is the only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating. Everything else was as good if not better.

Restaurant is beautiful. Food quality and service was terrible. Steak was overcooked considerably. Ordered med well came out over well done. Served it with a huge steak knife that you wouldn’t need if fillet was cooked properly. Bartender messed up several orders while we were at the bar and was not very personable. The place was supposedly filled with reservations. We had to sit at the bar but the restaurant had empty tables the entire time we were there. Seems they would want to cater to people that are there after a reservation doesn’t show. We will chalk this visit as growing pains but they better get it together because most people will not go backThey kept the name the same they need to keep the service and quality the same or better.

I had the ny strip my wife had the filet and my friend had the prime rib.....all 3 was AMAZING salad bar was also delicious willl be back!!

New owners, same great food! A Hickory staple has gotten even better! A MUST experience for anyone familiar with the place. A great value!

Very good food! We went for the Queen's Feast and it was amazing! Our steaks were cut table side and was FANTASTIC!

Best steak ive had in a while

Absolutely the best filet mignon I have ever had!!

I must say, the renovations are very nice, but that is the only positive comment I have. We ate here with friends on Friday evening, 12/06. 3 of us had chopped steak and one had the prime rib. The chopped steak looked to have been a frozen patty thrown on the grill. The width of the patty was the same as that of a McDonald's burger. I kid you not. I also ordered the grilled veggies that tasted as if they were rolled in salt, which I could not eat. The french onion soup had the salt content of ocean water. One sipwas enough for me. I do not do well with salt so I have been sick now for two days and still do not feel well just from that one sip of soup and a piece of my veggies that i had to spit out into my napkin. The prime rib was just ok, nothing to brag about. Needless to say, we were all so very disappointed and will not go back. The food, when it was the original Charolais was so much better.

The new owners have updated it's and gave it a wonderful atmosphere. The food was excellent!!

It wasn't as good as the old place but over all still good the lighting was alitte off couldn't see that well alitte to dark

The food and service is excellent. The only negative is it is very loud. After you've there for a little while it doesn't bother you as much. Overall wonderful place to eat.

We celebrated three family birthdays this week at the Charolais Steakhouse. The restaurant which has been renovated and updated by the new owners has a bright, festive yet intimate atmosphere. The salad, soup and cheese bar has a wide variety of items to choose from. The new wine cellar is a plus and the cocktail menu is impressive. Entrees can be ordered from the menu or steaks can be custom cut from the meat cart. Our family usually picks this restaurant for our birthday celebrations. Thanks to Sharon for great service and thanks to the Cranfords for another wonderful eating establishment!! We look forward to many more celebrations at the Charolais. The Robinsons

Beautiful interior. Get a reservation. Great salad bar. Yummy steaks.

Had reservations last night. Was greeted by a very polite hostess and immediately seated. However within 1 minute we knew we couldn't stay. It was WAY to loud and WAY too bright. No intamcy at all and very over stimulating.

Quite and romantic! The most delicious food. Resonablly priced compared to other big steakhouses.

I had eaten here years ago, and I must say I am very impressed with what the new ownership has done. The dining room is much nicer. Our appetizers were great, and our steaks were really good, and at a price comparible to local chains. The service was outstanding, and the restraunt was crowded for a Thursday night. If your in the mood for a really good steak, skip the local chain places, this is a much better experience.

My husband took me here for our first year anniversary. The food was amazing and the service was great. The waitress even took a picture of us so we could remember our special day.

First time back since they switched owners and couldn’t have been more impressed. The hostess was polite and welcoming, Isabella I think. Which was a great first impression. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was great they really did a great job with the remodel. I especially loved how they held on to some of the previous restaurants traditions such as the salad bar and table side steaks. The food was much much better than the old Charolais. The steaks are without a doubt the best around. Our table had 8 steaks all seasoned and cooked to perfection, not an easy feat. Great job by grill cook. Service was excellent all around. Only bad thing was how loud it was in there. Regardless we’ll definitely be back.

The staff was nice as could be. The decor is old and needs to get out of the 70s. The prime rib was as bland as could be. The steaks - there were 3 in our party - had no seasoning. In fact, the fat was sweet. Salad bar was nothing special and the French onion soup tasted like something out of a box. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I was that disappointed in a restaurant.

Great food and very friendly staff

I was disappointed.....ambiance is gone. Very loud and difficult to hold a conversation. No oil and vinegar for my salad. I had NY Strip and the others in my party had the Prime Rib...the meat was ok but not great either. The enclosed wine cave looked like a prayer shrine in my opinion was a foolish waste of capital. Not the same ole charolais. Not what I expected

The Charolais reopened recently so I decided to give it a try. The new interior is much improved. The salad bar is excellent and the steak was cooked perfectly. The service was a notch above what I was used to here, so I was very pleased. We had a party of about seven with individual checks and the server nailed it without issue. Try the French Onion Soup - it is excellent. I will return.

My husband and I went and ate here, the last time we were here was roughly 20 years ago. We did not have reservations but we were seated within 30 minutes. The service was excellent and the food was great. Steaks were perfectly cooked, mine was medium rare while my husband's was medium.

Was at the Restaurant on Friday evening of Dec 6, 2018, with another couple. I must say that the atmosphere was great my service was good. The food was not what I expected for the prices. I ordered a Chopped Sirloin steak , it looked like a frozen pattie that was 1/4" or less thick. I would have expected a hand patted pattie at least 1/2" thick for the price I paid, I also got with it the mixed vegies. I received 1 skewer of some chopped vegies ( onion, mushroom, 1 half slice of squash , cherrie tomato. ) Just think for the atmosphere and prices food would have been better. Probably will not go back. For the price I will travel to the Peddler in Boone.

Charolais is old school dinning at its finest - almost. The faces (staff) have been there for years and years... the steak cart comes to your table raw and you pick your cut. I go for 2 reasons... French Onion soup and cheese bar and a great salad bar. They are often full - so for more than 2 - 4 people reservations are typically necessary

This restaurant has been in Hickory as long as I can remember (1969). While I wouldn't go there for a quick lunch, I do take my out of town friends there. It is a wonderful place to have a great dinner, enjoy the company of friends and have a fabulous meal. Staff is fantastic and all about customer service without being annoying. I treasure each and visit! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

I loved it so much i went and got a job

The food, drinks, and service were still excellent after the remodel, which can be tricky in the hospitality business. And the new set up/decor is a nice modern update. The only complaint is that after the remodel, there's nothing to control the ambient noise. After a while, everything is a dull roar. I'm not sure how you would go about changing that after a remodel when it does look very good. It wouldn't stop me from visiting, however.

Food is excellent. Prime rib is the best around. Service is always great.
